This website is devoted to my experience
of studying abroad in El Salvador. Through images and personal thoughts, it is my hope that this website will give you,
the visitor, an idea of what a trip to El Salvador may entail.
From April 24, 2004 to May 8, 2004 I traveled to El Salvador with a group of students
from Grand Valley State University. This group also included two professors and an interpreter. This website is all
about my experience to El Salvador, what I learned about this country, and how I changed because of this trip.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this site.

Prior to my decision to travel to El Salvador my knowledge of this country was non-existent. This
study abroad trip enabled me to broaden my knowledge base, as well as stretch my own viewpoints of my country.
The experience of traveling to El Salvador was more than getting on a plane; it was about understanding
that I'm part of a global system.
Being part of a global system I have a responsibility to understand the consequences of
my individual actions, as well as educating myself on the choices that leaders of my country make.

El Salvador is a country that is filled with beauty yet has an extensive history of violence. This
violence began in the 1500's when the Spanish conquered this country. The Spanish conquest of this country created the
foundation for historical oppression that continues today.
